AuthorHouse Author John Borgstedt is America's Foremost Child Advocate
The advice given to every writer is to ?write about what you know.? Stories of fiction are often rooted in some degree of truth, or based on a person or event the author has experienced in real life. So, if you are stuck for something to write about, think about what has really happened to you or around you during your lifetime.
Some writers don?t need this advice. Their story is something that has to be told; harrowing tales of fact that beggar belief. Writing about them serves as part of the author?s cathartic healing process and an education for the reader.
The AuthorHouse Author?s Digest introduces three AuthorHouse authors who have written such books. Theirs are stories designed to raise awareness?about important issues that impact upon our global society. Their books have also established them as authorities in their particular fields, based on their first-hand knowledge, born of their personal experiences.
In this first week of June, we will hear from Alter Wiener, a Holocaust survivor whose book From a Name to a Number records his ordeals while imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. We will also hear from Yemi Elegunde, who was victim to a worldwide crime committed at a startling scale on a daily basis. His book Time Will Tell addresses the issues surrounding International Parental Child Abduction.
Today we start by introducing an AuthorHouse author whose story has brought much needed attention to the issue of Parental Child Abuse. John Borgstedt?s story, I Love You, Mom? Please Don?t Break My Heart, tells of his journey through a childhood of physical, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of his mother and has established him as ?one of the country?s foremost child advocates.?
John tells the AuthorHouse Author?s Digest how his book has helped him share his story with a wider audience.??? ????????
John Borgstedt?s Story: I Love You, Mom? Please Don?t Break My Heart
My book,?I Love You, Mom? Please Don?t Break My Heart has opened a number of doors, affording me the opportunity of countless speaking engagements around the world.??I speak at correctional institutions for both children and adults, to entities such as CASA, CAC, Churches, and Law Enforcement Agencies.???I have a legitimate message, and a newspaper writer said it best in an article he wrote about me and my book????It has gained John Borgstedt notoriety and national recognition as one of the country?s foremost child advocates.??
I am pleased that I decided to write the book.?It has put me in a position to help many.?Being an author I am now respected as an authority regarding child abuse, and I am able to assist family and law enforcement agencies with child abuse cases ? all over the country ? when called upon.
Writing this book also led to my story being portrayed in a full length film which has reached countless others.?The film has been well received and has won seven national and international awards.??
In addition and without fail ? I might mention -?it seems, there is always at least one person at my book signings? looking for a moment alone with me ? to tell me their story of abuse.??Teenagers, grown men and women, sometimes even an elderly person will watch for that moment and walk up to me.??They are almost in tears and I know what to expect, as they pour out their stories ?
In addition since writing my first book, I have become a multi-published writer and co-author.?
The reaction of individuals and social groups has been rewarding, and working with AuthorHouse Publishing has been a great experience.??It has proved to be a success story for all concerned.???
